I thought the early pick-up for SLEEPY HOLLOW signaled a change of ways for FOX. Apparently not.
In a move that’s shocked…basically everyone, the premiere of ALMOST HUMAN has been pushed back two weeks from Nov. 4th and has morphed into a two-night affair on Nov. 17th and 18th, both airing at 8pm ET/PT.
The network’s stance is that they want to utilize Sunday’s NFL doubleheader to give the show a boost before it settles into it’s regular Monday slot. They also want to take full advantage of the killer BONES/SLEEPY HOLLOW combo that’s currently running. It’s also highly possible they want to delay angering BONES fans once again when the nomadic series gets moved (for the umpteenth time) to Fridays at 8pm ET/PT as of Nov. 15th.
Honestly, I’m a bit baffled that they decided to make this move. They’ve already invested a lot of time and money on advertising but, more importantly, ALMOST HUMAN seems like the perfect match for SLEEPY HOLLOW. The story of a cop in the near future being paired with a “synthetic human” flows nicely into the ongoing adventures of a time-stopped adventurer battling supernatural forces with a modern day officer. They tick a lot of the same boxes and definitely appeal to the same audience.
The incessant, rueful jokes about FOX killing sci-fi shows with the coldblooded determination of a Terminator is absolutely old hat by now but…I just wish they’d stop giving us reasons to make them. I don’t think they’re trying to undermine ALMOST HUMAN, I think they genuinely believe this is the right move. Will it be? Who knows. I hope it is. Either way I’ll be watching.
Are you optimistic or just plain suspicious? Is ALMOST HUMAN the show you’ve been most looking forward to this fall? Any other thoughts?
